Outdoor
Education
The school has embarked on a number of
outdoor education initiatives.
Heating
our pool to 28 deg from November to the end of March the next year
allows us to extend the school swimming season. We hire a professional
coach to teach after school lessons two days each week at discounted rates.
Lessons range from advanced stroke and breathing to pre-school.
Camp
Adair has been great for all our children. The whole school moves
to Camp Adair, our local outdoor pursuits centre, four days each year.
The children rotate around a range of problem solving, extreme sports skills
and high rope activities. All of our children are positive about the
Camp Adair activities. Five year old Hannah climbed a 19 metre pole
and leapt across a two metre gap at the top on our last visit.
Coromandel
Camp was a week away at Coromandel for our whole school. We stayed
at the Local Area School gymnasium which was a marvelous venue. Thanks
Coromandel Area School. During the day our children visited local
attractions such as the Mining Museum, Stamping Battery, Driving Creek
Railway and the Waiau Water Works. As a special treat everyone was
taken out on a working mussel boat to visit the mussel farms and to do some
fishing.
Interschool
Sports are held once or twice each term. Paparimu school hosts the
East Counties Country Schools Cross Country. It is one of the most
picturesque and challenging courses in the country.
