Paparimu is a small rural school set in the foothills of the Hunua Ranges, 45 minutes’ drive South of Auckland.

It may be small, compared to city standards but it has a proud history … dating all the way back to 1899. Generations of local families have attended Paparimu School. Friendships made here, often last a lifetime.

Paparimu School has a low tolerance for bullying- an atmosphere of courtesy and kindness prevails here. In today’s violent society, parents appreciate a school where respect, friendship and co-operation are promoted

Some Paparimu pupils come from families with a farming background, increasingly, others live on smaller lifestyle blocks.

The school roll caters for students from Year 1-8. The school prides itself on a high teacher-pupil ratio and the staff include:

·        A Principal (who teaches)

·        Three teachers

·        An administration officer

·        Two teacher aides

·        Fundraising officer

·        Cleaner

  •   Gardener

The school has a close relationship with local residents- in many ways it is the “heart” of the community. The Parent Teacher Association is very active and is constantly striving to find ways to support the school and staff. Over the years Paparimu has seen the development of some wonderful facilities and the picturesque grounds would be the envy of many other schools.

School Events

The school regularly undertakes school events such as swimming galas, sports days, family discos and book fairs.

“Calf Club Day” is the biggest event on the school calendar and attracts visitors from far and wide. Pupils bring hand-reared lambs or calves and compete for prizes according to their handling skills and the animal’s condition.

The annual Prize Giving awards not only cups for academic and sporting achievement but also more unusual pursuits including the “Eel Cup”- for the biggest eel caught in a local creek!

The school aims to provide a safe, healthy environment that is stimulating and dynamic. We teach values of tolerance, care and respect. A positive and supportive relationship between school and home is sought at all times.

Finally, we hope that every child will leave Paparimu School confident, excited about the future and determined to make the very best of life.
